The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Environmental Protection Agency released their updated biological opinion today, concluding atrazine does not jeopardize the continued existence of threatened or endangered species. In response to this development, Ohio farmer and National Corn Growers Association President Jed Bower released the following statement:
“We applaud USFWS and EPA for releasing an opinion on atrazine that is based on sound science. Today’s opinion will help us preserve a tool that is vital to the successful planting practices of the nation’s farmers, ensuring growers are able to use environmentally forward practices, such as no-till production.
“We are deeply appreciative of these agencies and the Trump administration for ensuring that federal agencies are employing the best practices in assessing the health and environmental effects of key agricultural tools.”
