Wisconsin Corn Growers Association statement on year-round ethanol sales

MADISON, Wis. – In response to a statement issued today by the Administration regarding year-round ethanol sales, the Wisconsin Corn Growers Association (WCGA) has released the following statement:

“Allowing for year-round E15 sales is beneficial to both producers and consumers,” says Doug Rebout, WCGA President. “It allows our growers to expand markets, while simultaneously providing a cleaner fuel and more options for consumers at the pumps. We are grateful to the Administration and Secretary Sonny Perdue for their efforts on behalf of America’s corn growers.”

According to the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA), outdated regulations currently require retailers in many areas of the country to stop selling E15, a blend of gasoline and 15 percent ethanol approved for all vehicles 2001 and newer, during the summer months. Updating this regulation will give consumers year-round access to a fuel choice that can save them between three and 10 cents per gallon.

“With nine out of ten vehicles on the road today approved to use E15, consumers should have this lower-cost option year-round,” says NCGA President Lynn Chrisp. “NCGA will be taking an active role in the regulatory process, urging EPA move forward with making the President’s commitment a reality by next summer.”

The Wisconsin Corn Promotion Board of directors is comprised of nine corn growers elected from across the state. This volunteer board was formed in 1983 with the passage of a corn checkoff and is dedicated to market development, research and education. The Wisconsin Corn Growers Association is a grassroots organization committed to increasing the profitability of corn production through sound policies, continued market development and strong involvement in the political process.
