Corn Growers Pleased with Weed Specialist Hiring

The UW-Madison Department of Agronomy will soon start the search for the UW-Madison/Cooperative Extension Cropping Systems Weed Science position. This position was ranked as a high priority during the college’s faculty position review process. Working with Cooperative Extension, UW-Madison has identified the funding required to support this vacant state specialist position.
The Wisconsin Corn Growers Association applauded this announcement. In January, WCGA sent a letter to Kate VandenBosch, Dean of CALS, supporting the filling of this position that had been open for several years.
 
WCGA said the Cropping Systems Weed Specialist will work with other UW Specialists to help corn growers make the most educated decisions possible. The Cropping Systems Weed Specialist will be able to conduct research that will not only help growers improve herbicide-resistant weed management, but will also aid in protecting water quality and increasing food security
 
The research through this position has provided Wisconsin corn growers valuable information on weed management, helping growers increase corn yields and the value of the corn crop to Wisconsin’s economy.
